About this tool

Word limits are everywhere: essays, applications, abstracts, blog posts, product descriptions, tender responses. Guessing puts you at risk of a rejection for something entirely fixable, and word processor counts differ depending on how they treat hyphens and numbers.

Paste your text and you get the word count, character counts with and without spaces, sentence and paragraph counts, and an estimated reading time based on an average of around 200 words per minute. Nothing is uploaded, so unpublished writing and confidential drafts are safe to measure here.
