About PDFzy

PDFzy is a collection of 75 document tools that run entirely inside your web browser. There is no upload step, no account, and no queue.

How it works

When you choose a file, your browser reads it from your disk into memory. The processing code — page handling, rendering, recognition — is JavaScript and WebAssembly that already downloaded with the page, and it runs on your own processor. The finished document is created in memory and handed to your browser's download mechanism.

One consequence is that very large documents depend on your device's memory rather than on a server. On an older phone, a 300-page scanned PDF may take a while or fail; on a laptop it is usually quick.

What we won't pretend

  • Rasterising tools (redaction, unlocking, heavy compression) replace selectable text with pixels. Every affected tool says so on its page.
  • PDF to Word and PDF to Excel recover text and structure, not exact layout or images.
  • OCR gives you recognised text to copy; it does not yet embed a searchable layer into the original PDF.
  • We do not crack passwords. Unlocking requires the password you already know.
