About this tool

PDFs are a poor fit for the web: they are slow on phones, awkward for screen readers and invisible to some search crawlers. Converting the text to HTML gives you content you can publish, restyle with your own CSS or paste into a CMS.

The generated file is deliberately minimal — a document title, one section per PDF page and a paragraph per line group, with a small readable stylesheet. There is no absolute positioning to unpick, which makes it a good starting point for a real web page.

What it's good for

  • Publishing the content of a report as an accessible web page.
  • Migrating PDF-only documentation into a CMS.
  • Creating a mobile-friendly version of a printed document.
  • Making PDF content indexable by search engines.

Features

  • Semantic sections

Each PDF page becomes a labelled section element.

  • Escaped output

Text is HTML-escaped, so the result is safe to publish.

  • Readable defaults

A small built-in stylesheet gives sensible typography.

  • Easy to restyle

No inline positioning to fight with.
