Options for PDF Resolution Optimizer

Higher numbers look sharper and create larger files.

Compression works by re-rendering each page as an optimised image, which reliably shrinks scans and image-heavy files. Text stops being selectable in the result — use Optimize PDF when you need to keep the text layer.

How to pdf resolution optimizer

  1. 1Upload the PDF.
  2. 2Set the resolution and quality.
  3. 3Run it and compare the size report.

About this tool

Scanners often default to 600 DPI, which is far more detail than anyone needs to read a letter on screen and produces files several times larger than necessary. This tool lets you pick the resolution deliberately instead of accepting a preset.

As a rule of thumb: 96 DPI is comfortable for on-screen reading, 150 DPI is the sweet spot for documents that might be printed casually, 200–300 DPI is right for archival or OCR work. Pair the DPI with a quality percentage to fine-tune the balance, and the size report tells you what each choice cost.

What it's good for

  • Normalising a batch of over-scanned documents to 150 DPI.
  • Preparing a document for OCR at a known resolution.
  • Matching a specification that requires a particular DPI.
  • Trading a little sharpness for a much smaller archive.

Features

  • Exact DPI

  • Quality slider

Is text still selectable?
No, pages are re-rendered as images.
