Options for Image to Text

The recognition model for this language is downloaded once, then cached by your browser.

Recognition runs in your browser. The language model (a few megabytes) is downloaded from a public model host the first time you use a language; your document itself is never uploaded.

How to image to text

  1. 1Add one image.
  2. 2Choose the language.
  3. 3Extract, then copy or download the text.

About this tool

This is the quickest path from one picture to text you can paste. There is nothing to configure beyond the language: drop the image in, run it, and the recognised text appears in a panel you can copy from or download as a .txt file.

Under the hood it uses the same recognition engine as the other OCR tools, so the same guidance applies — straight, well-lit, reasonably large text gives the best results. A word and character count is included, which is handy when you are pulling a quote or checking a length limit.

What it's good for

  • Copying a quote from a photographed page.
  • Turning a screenshot of a table into text.
  • Extracting a code or reference number from an image.
  • Getting text out of an image someone sent you in chat.

Features

  • One-step

    No settings beyond the language.

  • Word count

Words and characters are reported with the result.

  • Copy or download

Use the text panel or save a .txt file.

  • Local recognition

Your image never leaves the browser.

Questions people ask

What if nothing is recognised?
The image is probably too small, blurred or low contrast. Try a sharper capture.
Can I do several images at once?
Use OCR Image, which accepts a batch.
Is layout preserved?
Line breaks are kept where detected, but columns and tables are not reconstructed.
